Monkey Bungalow - Why Nam

The studio was commissioned to design the new bungalows at Why Nam Resort, built to replace earlier structures that were lost. The site presented a significant challenge due to its steep topography, requiring a design that carefully responds to the landscape.

The concept focused on dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior space. enhancing the connection to nature. Large terraces, outdoor showers, and expansive window openings create an immersive experience of sleeping inside feeling fully surrounded by the jungle.

Construction was carried out by a local bamboo building team, who adapted parts of the design to suit traditional construction techniques and the natural properties of bamboo, allowing the project to integrate seamlessly with local craftsmanship and materials.

Integrated into the master suite of the house, this sauna was designed as a sculptural anchor rather than a hidden utility. The planning focuses on "living with the space," ensuring that the dialogue between the bedroom and the sauna creates constant visual interest. By blending the raw texture of Travertine stone with the warmth of Aspen wood behind seamless insulated glazing, we achieved a sense of geometric serenity that enhances the room's atmosphere even when the sauna is not in use.
